- The brand’s modern icon wins the prestigious award from the Polish edition of the famous magazine
- The ceremony took place in the elegant halls of the Zamoyski Palace, Warsaw: the undisputed star was the Alfa Romeo 4C, which received a standing ovation on the stage
Yesterday the Alfa Romeo 4C received the title of "Playboy’s Car of the Year 2014", in the gala evening presented by popular TV presenter Paulina Sykut-Jeżyna and Rafał Jemielita, journalist on the Polish edition of Playboy Magazine, in the elegant halls of the Zamoyski Palace, Warsaw. The prestigious title was assigned through the votes of the leading experts in the Polish automotive market.
The gala evening was the key moment of the "Playboy's Car of the Year 2014" competition, organised for the 22nd time by the staff of the Polish edition of the well-known magazine. "Playboy’s Car of the Year" aims to reveal the trends and directions in which the automotive market is developing, while the awards intend to reflect the preferences of Polish consumers.
The candidates are selected by a panel comprising personalities from the Polish automotive industry. This year the panel included Krzysztof Hołowczyc, one of Poland’s most award-winning rally drivers (European Rally Champion, three times Polish Rally Champion and Dakar Race driver); Andrzej Borowczyk, journalist and automotive sector commentator; Andrzej Koper, four time Polish Rally Champion and the first Polish driver to complete the Paris–Dakar; Włodzimierz Zientarski, well-known motoring expert, writer and journalist and finally Rafał Jemielita, anchorman of the “Automaniak TVN Turbo” series, and journalist for the Polish edition of Playboy Magazine. The panel named a winner and assigned 13 other titles in each category. The most prestigious award, "Playboy’s Car of the Year 2014", went to the Alfa Romeo 4C, which got up on the stage at the Zamoyski Palace to a genuine standing ovation.
Designed by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile, the development of the 4C’s exterior was characterised from the start by the need to enhance the style of the car and the technical characteristics both from a dynamic and aerodynamic point of view. For this reason, all the style solutions adopted have been optimised in accordance with the ultimate goal of the car: performance.
In particular, the Alfa Romeo 4C immediately brings to mind some of the traditional iconic models which have left a significant mark in the history of the Brand. Above all others, in terms of dimensional and layout similarities, one stands out in particular: the 33 Stradale of 1967, a car that combined extreme mechanical and functional requirements with an essential style which “clothed” the engine and chassis appropriately with unmistakable Alfa Romeo treatments.
The Alfa Romeo 4C has followed suit, and thus completes a journey which was embarked upon with the 8C Competizione, emphasising some particular concepts of the brand, such as compact size, dynamism and agility. The same search for the bare essentials has been applied to building one of the world's lightest-weight cars, the Alfa Romeo 4C. A downright search for the ideal weight led to the formula to combine 'lightness and efficiency' while exploring new solutions and materials, not to mention meticulous development work involving highly advanced technologies, in many cases coming from the excellence of Formula 1 or the aviation sector.
A genuine, uncompromising 'driving machine' that’s at its best precisely on the track, where speed, short braking distances and transverse acceleration are essential for first-rate lap times: from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds flat, top speed of 258 km/h, deceleration peaks in the range of 1.2 g and lateral acceleration peaks over 1.1 g. All this is achieved also owing to an optimum weight distribution - 40% on the front axle and 60% on the rear axle - and to a weight to power ratio under 4 kg/HP.
"Playboy’s Car of the Year 2014" is the third award assigned to the captivating Alfa Romeo 4C in Poland: it won both the "Auto Leader 2013" title, in the “Sports Cars and Convertibles” category, from the readers of Polish weekly "MOTOR" and monthly "AUTO MOTO", and the "Coupé of the Year" award from the journalists of the Polish edition of Top Gear magazine, the country‘s best-selling automotive publication.
