EURO 5 ENGINES
Two new peak performance power units take up Alfa Romeo's great engineering tradition:
-the 1750 Turbo Petrol - 200 HP is reminiscent of the 1750 engine that equipped Alfa Romeo's most successful saloons
-the 2.0 JTDM - 170 HP Common Rail Multijet, implementing the technology developed by the Fiat Group with Bosch that revolutionised the world of diesel engines at the end of the 1990s.

1750 TURBO PETROL 200 HP
This new engine combines the most advanced controlled ignition engine technologies, such as direct petrol injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, turbocharger and a revolutionary “scavenging” control system.
These technologies provide:
-better efficiency in all engine operating conditions
-maximum reduction of consumption and emissions
-more torque at low rpm
-no turbo lag for incredibly fast engine response.

The result of these technological solutions is a specific torque of 185 Nm/l, the highest delivered by petrol engines in its category.
Furthermore, peak torque of 320 Nm is delivered at only 1400 rpm -another excellent value.
The performance of this engine is thus comparable to or even better than that of a 3000 cc engine, while consumption is kept down and is typical of a 1750 cc.

2.0 JTDM 170 HP
-new variable geometry turbo
- advanced “low voltage” pre-heating spark plugs for faster start-ups
-a new EGR exhaust gas recirculation system
-a new “CCDPF” (Close Coupled DPF) filter for heating up the catalytic converter faster and burning less fuel during regeneration (the filter cleaning process which periodically and automatically burns trapped particulate).

NEW ECO ENGINES
Sportiness, prompt reactions and satisfying ride setting at high speed are the “Alfa Romeo values” that the new ECO engines reconcile with the global efficiency needed to meet anti-pollution standards and - at the same time - contain running costs (specifically, fuel consumption).

The engine and gearbox have been fine-tuned to decrease C02 emissions under the 140 g/km threshold and cut fuel consumption without reducing driving pleasure:
low rolling resistance tyres - new low viscosity oil - a new power steering pump (called "Varioserv") which reduces engine power consumption when steering assistance is not needed (for example, it uses less oil on a straight road and for small steering wheel angles) - optimised, version-specific engine control unit calibration - final drive ratio extended by 5%
ECO versions are available for all 2.0 JTDM 170 HP Euro 5 and 1.9 JTDM 120 HP Euro 4 engines.

OTHER ALFA ROMEO ENGINES
In addition to the new Euro 5 range, the new Alfa Romeo 159 has engines that meet requirements in terms of excellent performance and cost-effective running.
For example the 2.4 JTDM - 200 HP turbo diesel with Q-Tronic automatic transmission, that ensures excellent power and torque and low consumption in all driving conditions.
Finally, the 1.8 140 HP engine is very reliable.
