Powerful engines, thrilling performances. A guarantee of driving pleasure.
NEW EURO 5 ENGINES
Two new top-performing engines carry on Alfa Romeo’s tradition of excellence in the field of engine design:
- The 200 bhp 1750 Petrol Turbo re-proposes the 1750cc displacement of the engines equipping Alfa Romeo’s successful sedans.
- The 2.0 JTDM engine developing 170 bhp uses the Common Rail Multijet technology developed by the Fiat Group in collaboration with Bosch, a breakthrough that revolutionised the world of diesel engines in the late 1990s.

1750 200 bhp PETROL TURBO
This new power unit brings together the most advanced technologies in the field of spark-ignition engines, such as petrol direct injection, double continuous phase variator, the turbocharger and a revolutionary control system termed ‘scavenging’.
These technologies ensure:
- enhanced engine efficiency in all operating modes.
- maximum fuel economy and minimised emission levels.
- higher torque values at low revs.
- no turbo lag resulting in incredibly fast engine response.

One of the results achieved through the use of these technologies is a specific torque (185 Nm/lit.) that few other petrol engines in this class can match.
Moreover, the peak torque of 320 Nm already available at 1400 rpm can be seen as a value of absolute excellence.
Thus, the 159 Sportwagon has been equipped with an engine whose performances compare favourably with those of a 3000cc engine, while fuel economy is as good as in 1750cc engines.

2.0 JTDM 170 bhp
- new variable geometry turbo
- leading-edge low voltage glow plugs, making for prompter engine starting
- new exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR)
- new ‘CCDPF’ (Close Coupled DPF) particulate filter making for faster catalyst heating and reduced fuel consumption during the regeneration process (the filter is cleansed automatically at regular intervals by burning the impurities trapped in it).

NEW ECO ENGINES
Sportiness, prompt response, excellent stability at high speeds are Alfa Romeo’s typical values, and thanks to the new ECO engines such values are compatible with the overall efficiency parameters that have to be satisfied to comply with antipollution regulations and – at the same time – keep down the vehicle’s running costs (fuel consumption).

CO2 emissions below the 140 g/km threshold have been achieved by adopting measures that enhance engine and gearbox efficiency so as to improve fuel economy without undermining driving pleasure:
- low rolling resistance tyres
- new low viscosity oil type
- new power steering pump (called ‘Varioserv’) that reduces the power absorbed by the engine when assisted steering is not required (e.g., uses less oil on straight roads, or for small steering-wheel angles)
- optimised calibration of the engine control unit, specific to these versions
- final ratio increased by 5%
ECO versions are offered for the 2.0 JTDM 170 bhp Euro 5 and the 1.9 JTDM 120 bhp Euro 4 engines.

OTHER ALFA ROMEO ENGINES
Besides the new Euro 5 engines, the 159 sportwagon offers power units that combine outstanding performances and operating economy.
Two powerful engines, the 3.2 JTS V6, developing 260 bhp with Q4 four-wheel-drive, and the 2.2 JTS, with a power output of 185 bhp, use the JTS combustion system and are offered with Q-tronic automatic transmission and robotised Selespeed gearbox, respectively. Among the JTDM turbo diesels, we should mention the 200 bhp 2.4 with Q-Tronic, that ensures great power and torque values mated to fuel economy in any situation.
Maximum reliability is the salient trait of the 1.8 140 bhp and the 1.9 JTDM 16V 150 bhp engines.

SELESPEED: Technology for outstanding performances and driving pleasure.
The Selespeed gearbox comes with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters specially designed for a sporty driving style. A special ‘Sport’ button can be pressed to reduce the time it takes to shift gear by 20%; if the system is activated automatically, gear shifting points are moved to higher revving speeds.

Q-TRONIC: TECHNOLOGY AND SPORTY PERFORMANCES.
Q-Tronic adapts to the style of the driver, making for optimised fuel consumption, and offers a choice of up to 4 driving modes, that are selected by means of ad hoc buttons.
- Comfort, for a more relaxing ride
- Sport (on the 2.4 JTDM and the 3.2 V6 Q4), if you seek enhanced performances, with gear shifting points at higher engine revs
- Winter (on the 2.4 JTDM and the 3.2 V6 Q4) assists the driver on low-grip surfaces
- Sequential, to let you shift gear manually.
Q-Tronic activates automatically a number of advanced functions, such as the Up&Down Slope or Cornering functions, that enable the vehicle to sense the slope, the conditions of the road and the trajectory, and to modify the gear shifting points accordingly.

Q4 – Permanent four-wheel-drive.
Automotive technology at the top. With the 3.2 JTS V6, the Alfa 159 sportwagon proposes an advanced version of permanent 4x4 drive with three differentials. The heart of the system is the Twindiff, a central mechanical differential developed from the Torsen C.
Moreover, a permanent and dynamic distribution of torque over the four drive wheels ensures the highest levels of active safety and sportiness.
