The device that customises car performance

Alfa Romeo DNA is a device that customises car performance based on different driving styles or different road conditions through three different set-ups: Dynamic (D), Natural (N) and All Weather (A). The device allows the driver to choose one of the three modes at his or her convenience by simply moving a selector located in front of the gear lever.

Natural

For those who want relaxed, safe driving, in Natural mode each individual component affected by the Alfa DNA system are in their normal configuration: lively engine, highly discreet Vehicle Dynamic Control and a DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) which sees that oversteering is avoided. The Normal load suggests gear shifts with a Gear Shift Indicator, this allows fuel consumption and emissions to be optimised for a perfect drive around town.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR: Standard configuration;
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING: Standard Setting;
  • DST: Standard braking control coordinated with ABS Standard control over lateral acceleration Compensation of oversteer;
  • Engine: Standard responsiveness

Dynamic
Drivers who prefer a more sporty drive simply have to move the lever to Dynamic: the system thus acts on the steering and on the engine. For a more sporty driving feel that guarantees impeccable control, the steering is made less power assisted: a slight tug on the steering wheel prompts the driver to carry out the most correct manoeuvre. The Dynamic system also offers drivers better control of side acceleration and improved engine response due to a specific torque curve.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR Less intrusive;
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING: More sporty setting;
  • DST: Standard braking control coordinated with ABS More control over lateral acceleration Compensation of oversteer;
  • Engine: Faster response – Over-boost on petrol-Specific torque curve.

All Weather
On slippery surfaces, drivers can also select All Weather mode, which accentuates the effect of traction control and increases sensitivity on multi-split (useful when the car is driving over surfaces with differential grip, for example 2 wheels on ice and 2 on asphalt). This system allows maximum roadholding under conditions of low grip.

Technical specifications

  • VDC and ASR: VDC with more direct action;
  • DUAL PINION ACTIVE STEERING: More sporty setting;
  • DST: Greater braking control coordinated with VDC Standard control over lateral acceleration Compensation of oversteer;
  • Engine: Standard responsiveness.

Terminology:
VDC: Vehicle Dynamic Control
ASR: Anti Slip Regulation
DST: Dynamic Steering Torque

Prefill

Prefill is a new function that offers drivers incredibly prompt braking pressurising the brake system in advance in the event of an emergency. The Prefill is active in the Alfa DNA Dynamic mode. In detail, the control unit recognises the driver's desire to brake from the speed at which accelerator pedal is released. At this point the VDC increases the pressure inside the braking system by several bars to take up any play and create the sensation of quicker braking response. This system speeds up the operation of the braking system.
