New Alfa Romeo Tonale
Ibrida Plug-in Q4
Here to answer your questions
from charging and autonomy to performance, comfort and everyday usability.
Meaning and Functioning
The battery can be recharged either by plugging the car into an external power source or while driving, thanks to regenerative braking, which recovers energy during deceleration.
This allows you to drive in full-electric mode for everyday journeys, while relying on the combustion engine for longer distances. On Alfa Romeo Tonale Ibrida Plug-in Q4, electric range reaches up to 58–61 miles (combined WLTP cycle), with a total range of up to 600 km.
Charging
Alfa Romeo Tonale Ibrida Plug-in can be charged easily and flexibly, both at home and on the road:
- At home, you can plug it into a standard AC household socket using a Mode 2 cable for everyday convenience, or choose one of Alfa Romeo’s dedicated charging solutions: easyWallbox, easy to install and also available in a plug & play version, or eProWallbox Move and Full, which offer higher power, remote management and advanced features.
- On the road, you can charge the vehicle at public charging stations using a Mode 3 cable. With Free2move Charge services, you have access to over 1,000,000 charging points across Europe. With power up to 7.4 kW, a full charge can take approximately 2.5 hours.
In addition, with the My Alfa Connect app you can plan your journeys, monitor the remaining range and easily find the nearest charging stations, as well as manage your home wallbox remotely via eSolutions Charging.
At home, using a standard household socket with a Mode 2 cable, charging takes longer and is best suited for overnight use. With a wallbox, such as easyWallbox or eProWallbox, delivering up to 7.4 kW, a full charge can be completed in approximately 2.5 hours.
At public charging stations, with power up to 7.4 kW and a Mode 3 cable, charging times are similar: a full charge can take around 2.5 hours.
While driving, the system also recovers energy during coasting and braking phases, helping to recharge the battery and improve overall efficiency.
Autonomy
Electric range may vary depending on several factors, such as driving style, route type (urban or extra-urban), traffic conditions and outside temperature. The use of onboard systems, such as climate control and infotainment, can also affect energy consumption.
In addition, technologies such as regenerative braking and the E-SAVE function help optimise available energy, supporting the preservation or extension of electric range while driving.
Consumption & running costs
In electric mode, energy consumption is around 12.3–12.7 kWh/100 km, helping to further reduce fuel use, especially in daily driving.
Benefits
This configuration enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds, delivering strong performance and immediate response.
Traction & Handling
In normal conditions, it prioritises efficiency and smoothness. When additional traction is needed, such as during acceleration or on low-grip surfaces like rain, snow or ice, the electric motor engages the rear axle, optimising torque distribution and enhancing control. The result is a driving experience that is safer, more stable and more engaging, in true Alfa Romeo style, whatever the conditions.
Driving instructions
-EV Mode: enables fully electric driving, ideal for everyday urban journeys and for reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
-Hybrid Mode: automatically manages the interaction between the combustion engine and the electric motor, optimising performance and efficiency based on the driving conditions. It is the most versatile mode, perfect for everyday use.
-e-Save Mode: allows you to maintain or recharge the battery level while driving by using the combustion engine. It includes Battery Save and Energy Charge functions, useful for preserving energy to be used later, for example when entering urban areas.
Supporting these modes are advanced technologies such as regenerative braking, which is always active to recover energy during deceleration, and E-Coasting, which engages when lifting off the accelerator to further optimise efficiency even without braking. The result is a smooth and intelligent energy management system, allowing you to choose the best balance between performance, range and efficiency at any time.
